During this unit, students will read the novel, Letters
from Rifka, while studying the concept of immigration.
Students will be responsible for researching the reasons
why many European groups wanted to emigrate to the United
States. During a final presentation, student teams will
report on the contributions different ethic groups have
made to America’s cultural history. Students will
also learn about Ellis Island and the role this famous
landmark has in America’s history of immigration.
